Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

We went to DC for a quick visit with Andy's family. Avery and Ryan did pretty well on their first plane ride with just a little fusiness mainly because they were tired and just needed to settle down for a nap. We rented a car at the airport along with 2 car seats. We stayed at Andy's parents and they were able to borrow toys, a highchair, 2 pack n plays. Everything got quite a bit of use. Saturday night we celebrated Josh and Andy's birthday at his parent's house with the kids. Bailey and Emma couldn't believe how big Avery and Ryan are now compared to when they came out to visit in April. We kept Avery and Ryan on their Colorado schedule, which meant they didn't go down until 9pm and got up around 8am. It worked out pretty well. Sunday, we had some friends in the area over to meet the babies. It was great to see everyone and their kids and introduce them to Avery & Ryan. Sunday night, Andy and his parents went to Kol Nidre services and I stayed to put the babies down. Monday, we went over to see Josh and Brandy's new house. It is in a great location and has a big walkout basement for all of the girl's toys. The girls even put on a show for us. They are so cute and hard to believe Bailey is already in Kindergarten. Afterwards we went to Georgetown and strolled down M street. Monday night, we went over to Andy's aunt and uncle's house for Break the Fast. It was good to see everyone. Tuesday morning we headed back to the airport to fly home!

Rub-a-dub-dub

Avery and Ryan loved their first bath in the tub with all the floating toys and being able to play together in the tub. Avery thought it was the funniest thing ever and loved grabbing things from the water and stealing stuff from Ryan's hands.

Touchdown!

We got a feel for fall on Saturday as it was chilly and rainy outside-a good day to get some things done around the house. We are started to work on baby proofing as the kids will be crawling in no time. They are doing a great job of sitting up and still love spending time in the exersaucer and jumperoo. They are enjoying their bath time and will probably move out of the kitchen sink soon and up to the tub.

Sunday, we had the Angeliers over for brunch and to watch the Broncos. Steve and Carolyn have a 21 month old, Natalie. All the kids napped during the 2nd half and we were able to enjoy the game - especially the last 30 seconds!

Labor Day Weekend

Friday, Sarah did a little art project with Avery and Ryan for Andy's birthday - too cute.

We started off our long weekend on the golf course. We were both able to get out of work early on Friday, so met up at Raccoon Creek, which is around the corner from our house. The weather was great and we had a fun time.

We packed up Friday night for our weekend trip to Steamboat. Andy opened his gifts and cards on Saturday morning before we headed out. We stopped in Silverthorne to do a little shopping, grab some lunch, and give the kids a break from their car seats. We got up to Steamboat mid-afternoon and we were able to check into our condo a little early. We stayed at the Sheraton right at the base of the mountain. Saturday night we went to Riggio's for Andy's birthday dinner with the kids in tow. Avery slept through most of the dinner and Ryan hung out in the highchair. The dinner was delicious and we ended up taking dessert to go so we could get Avery and Ryan down since it was past their normal bedtime. Sunday, we headed to Fish Creek Falls after breakfast. We did the easy walk to the overlook with Avery and Ryan in the baby bjorns. It was a little cool, so their little baby gap outfits came in handy.

Family at the falls

After viewing the falls, we took the gondola up for brunch on the mountain. We were able to get a table outside with great views. Towards the end, it started raining, so we had to finish up quickly.

We then headed back for naps. After naps, we headed downtown to walk around. After feeding them dinner back at our condo, we headed back downtown to have dinner at Mahogany Ridge Brewery - the beer and food were great and Avery and Ryan were well behaved once again. We got back earlier than the night before. Ryan fell asleep quickly but Avery was definitely over tired and it took some work to get her down. We have definitely become the parents that keep their kids on a schedule, but it was hard being away from home and can see that keeping the schedule is definitely best for all of us. We packed up this morning and went to breakfast at Winona's in downtown Steamboat. We got there just before the wait started and were able to sit outside and enjoy the end of our mini vacation. We left Steamboat around 10:30 and thought we would get a jumpstart on the traffic. It was smooth sailing through the tunnel, but then quickly came to a crawl and took twice as long as it should have. Back to reality tomorrow - at least it is a short week!
